Koray Ariş, graduated in 1968 from the Şadi Çalık atelier of the National Academy of Fine Arts, Istanbul. Following his graduation, he traveled to Italy and became a student of Emilio Greco at the Fine Arts Academy of Rome. He set up his own studio in Rome in 1971 and opened his first solo exhibition, the following year. In later years, his works were exhibited in many European cities, among them Florence, Belgrade and Budapest. Ariş who returned to Turkey in 1975, started teaching at the Fine Arts Academy in Istanbul. Two years later, he left his position at the Academy in order to open his own studio.
The Ariş sculptures continue to be exhibited on a regular basis in Ankara and Istanbul for over 25 years, and the masks he designed in 2001 for the dance performance “Fire of Anatolia”, continues to travel the world along with the show. More recently, the sculptures of Ariş were included in the exhibition “Memory and Scale: 15 Artists of Modern Turkish Sculpture” held at the Istanbul Modern -Istanbul Museum of Modern Art-. Ariş lives and works in Istanbul.
