Mehmet Güleryüz, graduated from the Painting Department of the National Academy of Fine Arts, Istanbul. Between 1970 and 1975, he traveled to France with a state scholarship, continued working on his painting in Paris and opened exhibitions in various French cities. On his return to Turkey, Güleryüz began teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul; during the same days his drawings started appearing in the pages of the daily Cumhuriyet. In 1980, he resigned his position at the Academy and moved his atelier to New York, where he stayed for the next four years. Shortly after his return to Turkey, he was invited first to the Alexandria and later to the Istanbul Biennials.
Güleryüz also took part in a several group shows around Europe, while his solo shows continued in Istanbul and in Ankara on a regular basis. He assumed the Founding Chairmanship of the International Plastic Arts Association in 1991, and remained in that position for many years. Güleryüz, lives and works in Istanbul.
