İstanbul, 1957

Mithat Şen, graduated in 1981 from the Academy of Applied Arts, Istanbul. A year after his graduation, he opened his first show in Istanbul. His solo exhibitions were later held on a regular basis in Ankara and Istanbul. In 1990, he was invited to the Venice Biennial and his works were later viewed in Europe during the “I am Another” exhibition held in Copenhagen. In addition to several articles, his canvases, reflecting the body in an iconic way, became the subject of Orhan Koçak’s book, published in 1995 under the title of “The State of Images”,

and in Zeynep Sayın’s books published in two volumes in 1999 and 2000, entitled “Mithat Şen and Body Writing”. The artist, who centers his more recent works on the effects of different materials, continues his work at his studio in Istanbul.
